Customer Review :
Inexpensive and easy to use : 3.5" IDE HDD Enclosure, Black
I have several old IDE drives. Rather than pay for an external backup drive I decided to try an enclosure so I could use some of my old HDDs. I looked at several and based on the reviews and price of this item I decided to try it.
It is very basic and does not have any documentation. To open the box you need a something to press in a small plastic lock pin but it is easy to open. There are 2 plastic rectangles and an extra front and back cover. I didn't know what the rectangles were for so I didn't use them. I now see in another review that you can place the plastic rectangles in the HDD screw holes to make rails. It worked fine for me without the rails.
It was very easy to connect the drive and close the case. I connected to a Windows 7 system with the USB cable and was able to use the HDD immediately. I used it for 2 weeks without any problem so I just ordered 3 more.
There are 2 minor problems for me. These are very minor compared to the cost but they are the reason for a 4 star rating instead of a 5 star rating..
1. There is no stand. You have to lay the drive down. You can't stand it on its edge. Unless you place it on something there is no air flow below the drive.
2. There is very little ventilation so heat might be a problem. I took the case and drilled several small holes to provide better cooling. Please Check Update Here!!
